Be a Santa to a Senior

Thursday, December 1, 4:00 – 7:00 PM

IT’S A GIFT WRAPPING PARTY!

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, many people probably aren’t thinking about Christmas just yet. But the Be A Santa For A Senior program in Roanoke is hoping to inspire shoppers to get a gift for an elderly person who may otherwise have been forgotten this holiday season.
Participating businesses have tags on a Christmas tree which shoppers may take and buy the gift suggested.  The tags on this Christmas tree may not seem like much but to the senior citizens they represent, it may be the only Christmas present they get this holiday season. They’re not asking for much – hand lotion, stamps, stationery, everyday items we take for granted. But Home Instead Senior Care’s Jim Valder says even the smallest gift means a lot.  Once the gifts are turned in to the vendors, volunteers collect, wrap, and deliver the gifts to the seniors.

Roanoke United Methodist Home is sponsoring a Gift Wrapping party for the local Be a Santa to a Senior Program.  Volunteers are needed to help wrap gifts that have been collected.   Come to 1009 Old Country Club Road, Roanoke, VA., to give whatever time you can to join the fun and, at the same time, provide a valuable service to local seniors. For more information, call Delaine Caldwell, 540-767-6805.
